MANAGE ME, I'M A MESS.
The setting is in Seattle, where a talk show host sits, the camera pointing at her bright, smiling face.
The television slowly flickers, bringing her picture into the home of many hopeful musicians.
"Good morning, Seattle! This is a wonderful day! Why? Well, it's the very first time that we've got two members of the band, "Next December" on our show!
Applause.
"I'd like to introduce Becky Palmer, their talented vocalist, and bassist Jarod Nickols to the show!"
Screams, shuffling in the background.
Heels can be heard clicking on the wood floors, then two people appear on set, causing even more of an uproar.
"HELLO SEATTLE!" singer, Becky calls, as bassist, Jarod, throws a fist into the air.
"NOW WHO HERE IS READY FOR SUBJECT TO FANTASY'S SECOND YEAR?!"
More screaming from the audience, fading into a commercial.
Minutes pass before the show reappears on the screen.
The host speaks, "Hello Seattle! My name is Lilian Rae, and I'm here with Becky and Jarod from Seattle's very own Next December!"
Cheers, including some from the musicians.
"So, everyone is dying to know the scoop on this years battle of the bands. Becky, would you like to fill us in?"
Nod of a head, squeals in audience, silence.
Throat being cleared.
Becky then speaks. "Well, as most of you know, last year Seattle hosted the very first edition of Subject To Fantasy. It is probably the biggest battle of the bands, bringing in groups form all over America, as well as some from Canada, Australia, and different played in Europe. Each band has a chance to win a deal with a record label, so it's a tight competition when only one band will win.:
Jarod then continues. "Basically, what happens is you sign your band up. You'll get a call for an audition, and after that, they'll call you back to let you know if you made it. Generally, the first round has about fifty bands. You've really got to work to get in, or you'll get cut. Five bands are cut from the first five rounds, then the numbers continue to go down, and the competition is even tighter.
Smile from the host, cut to commercial.
Cut back.
"And we're back!" the host says. "So, Can we know a bit more about the experience?"
"Yeah, sure," Jarod says. "It's the best experience I ever had, actually. We got to meet a lot of new people, and spend more time with people we already knew. But, it's hard to keep friendships when there's a record deal in the middle, because sometimes, there's just bad intentions behind them. So, you really learn who you're actually friends with, and you have to keep the competition close to your side.
Becky then speaks. "He's right, but you need that sort of thing if you want to be famous. It really helps you prepare for fame, because there are always going to be jealous people and people who want to use you for things."
Smiling, the host cuts in.
"There was a surprise, right? I saw on a blog somewhere, you guys have a surprise for the winners?"
Laughing, Jarod speaks. "Yeah! The band that wins, they get to come on tour with us. They'll be our opening act and we'll show them everything they need to know about touring and that!"
Screams and chatter spill from the crowd.
"Well, it was wonderful chatting with you guys! Thank you so much for the inside scoop!"
"PEACE, SEATTLE!"
Screams fill the room, cut to commercial, television static.
Power off.
